We’re still here in Bradenton!  We decided to stay here through the end of October.  This is a great place to be in the event of a hurricane.  Fortunately this year we haven’t had to worry about that.  At least so far!

We’ve done a few things since my last post.  We’ve been back to ACE’s a few times.  There has been some pretty good music there.  We like going on Sunday evenings when they have local blues bands and an Italian buffet for only $6.95!  Can’t beat that!
There was a pretty good car show here last weekend at the Joey D’s parking lot.  Joey D’s is a cool little “Chicago styled” diner.  Really good pizza!  Anyway, there were lots of different cars to see.  Check out the pictures.  There are a lot of “car crazy guys” here in Bradenton!
Our friends, Jeff and Linda, who live in Venice stopped in for a visit this week.  They were on their way to Jacksonville.  It was great to see them.  We may move NautiNell to Venice the end of the month if we can find a good place to do so.  It would be fun being around them although they’re only 20 minutes away now!  We can’t decide – we do know that we’re taking NautiNell back to the Keys for the winter.  We’re just not sure when…..
The past couple of weeks have been pretty rainy here.  It rained for three days straight last week!  There was even some light flooding.   I think they said that we got over 12 inches of rain all together.  Glad that’s behind us!  We’ve had some gorgeous weather that last few days.  Can’t complain!
Everyone at the dock got together the other night for a great potluck dinner.  We had planned to have it around the pool but had to move it inside due to the rain.  At least the rain hasn’t ruined our appetites!  HA!
Bradenton has a “Third Thursday Celebration” down on Old Main Street every month starting in September.  The one this month got postponed till the “Fourth Thursday” because of rain.  We went the other night – didn’t really know what to expect but it turned out pretty good.  Lots of food vendors, drinks and good music by a local band.  A lot like home back in Joplin…..   We all had a good time.
We had to make a trip to Clearwater the other day to pick up a pump for our generator.  Road trip!  The beach is really pretty over there.  We talked about staying there next summer but we’re not sure.  It seems that they get more weather over there on the other side of the Bay.  Maybe we’ll just come back over by car and hang out at the beach……  We did find a great little place for lunch, of course – Pete and Shorty’s. Great sandwiches!
We took a trip up the Manatee River and found where the Braden River flows into it.  We decided to explore the Braden River.  We hoped we could get up the river to the Linger Lodge where we had had lunch a few weeks ago.  The Braden River is really pretty – a lot prettier than the Manatee.  But after about an hour up the river we came to a dam that we couldn’t cross over.  “Dam it”….  J  Oh well it was a beautiful day and we saw some really pretty scenery.  There were a lot of mangroves and other foliage – but no gators.  Darn!
Mike has been busy this past week.  He’s been really wanting to get some type of contraption that would hold the Whaler so we could transport it without having to load it up on top.  We don’t like towing it much if we have to go a long way.  Also, it’s a real episode to get it up on top and it’s not a quick release if we needed or wanted to use it while traveling.  NOW – we have a new “Hurley Davit System” that holds it out of the water and just over the swim platform.  This way it can be out of the water when we’re in a marina and it is easy to release as well as easy to load.  He’s a happy camper!!
We went to the Red Barn Flea Market today.  That’s an experience!  It is huge!  There are a lot of booths there that sell both new and/or used stuff.  There’s also a huge Farmers Market with great produce.  There is a food court with a really good Mexican Restaurant.  We ate there and watched the people.  There was even a one man band playing and some dancing going on!  HA!  At a flea market no less!  Definitely going back there – can’t see everything in one day…
Well I’m trying to convince Mike that it’s time for another trip to the beach on Anna Maria Island.  That shouldn’t be too hard – maybe one day this coming week.
Till next time!
